Privacy Policy

Updated Aug 17, 2021 to add paragraph on information collected by Vimeo if you play the embedded video on osomprivacy.com/lemans

This policy effective March 17, 2021

We’re committed to protecting your privacy and collecting only the minimum amount of info needed to provide our software and services — referred to as “Services”. Your use of the Services indicates you agree to this policy and our terms of use.

Summary

Nothing in this policy contradicts the following statements:

  1. OSOM never collects your personal information.
  2. We don’t sell your personal info to advertisers or other third parties.
  3. We do use Simple Analytics.
  4. We do not use Cookies.
  5. We share your personal info only when legally required, or when reasonably necessary to prevent harm in an emergency situation.
  6. In order to livestream the 2021 Le Mans we need to embed Vimeo.  This is how Vimeo uses cookies (and how you can disable them).

Complete terms

As used in this policy, “Personal Info” is data that can identify a particular person or device. Aggregate data isn’t considered Personal Info.

  1. OSOM Does Not Collect Your Personal Information

Our Services don’t collect any of your Personal Info. Unlike most websites, our site doesn’t collect your IP address and we don’t use cookies. We definitely don’t collect your precise geo-location or associate geo-location information with a particular user.

Because we do not collect information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites or online services, there is no need for us to respond to a browser’s Do Not Track settings, although we strongly support a consumer’s right to set such a preference and encourage all website operators to honor this consumer choice.

Optionally, you may choose to provide your email address and communicate with us via email.  This info is used only as you’d expect and deleted upon request.  We will never sell this or any other personal information.

  1. OSOM Never Sells your Personal Information

We don’t receive payment in cash or in kind from third parties in exchange for your Personal Info. Further, we don’t allow third parties to collect info about you on our site through cookies or other means.  We do not collect your personal information.  If you voluntarily provide us with your personal information, for example by contacting us, we do not ever sell it.

  1. OSOM Does Use Simply Analytics

We use Simple Analytics to collect aggregate usage data from the Services and our website, including number of page views, visitor browser types, operating systems, or the links clicked to navigate to and from our site.  Simple Analytics also does not use cookies or collect any personal information.  You can find out more about what they do collect here.

  1. We Do NOT Use Cookies

We do not use cookies.  Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or disable them, you can find out more here. Or check your browser preferences.

  1. OSOM Shares Your Personal Info Only When Legally Required to Do So

There are a few, rare circumstances when we may have to share your Personal Info either to obey the law or protect our rights. We’ll share your Personal Info only to comply with laws or legally enforceable requests, to enforce our own rights and contracts with users or third parties, or to prevent harm to others and their property in an emergency situation.

In all instances, we’ll share the minimum info necessary to meet the immediate need and inform you of our disclosure when legally and practically possible.

  1. Transparency report

As explained above, we will comply with a request for user data when the law requires it, but we require valid legal process to compel the disclosure of user data to the government; such as a legitimate and properly scoped court order, or a search warrant supported by probable cause and issued by an appropriate law enforcement authority. We interpret requests narrowly, and we will oppose unlawful or overbroad requests for specific user data.

  1. In order to livestream the 2021 Le Mans we need to embed Vimeo.  This is how Vimeo uses cookies (and how you can disable them).

We are really excited to partner with Glickenhaus North American Racing to livestream the 2021 Le Mans.  In order to livestream the race, we have to embed a video player with a DNT Parameter.  Sadly, we could not find a stable player with zero cookies to reliably stream a 24 hour live event in HD.  Our team tested different options and decided that Vimeo was the most privacy protective option.  You can read Vimeo’s privacy policy here.  We chose Vimeo because their embeddable video player only uses essential cookies and Vimeo does honor “Do Not Track.”  In other words, setting this parameter in an embedded player (like on https://osomprivacy.com/lemans), will block the player from tracking any session data, including all cookies and analytics and will have the same effect as enabling a Do Not Track setting in your browser .  You can read Vimeo’s entire cookie policy here but here is the applicable portion:

Vimeo video player: Vimeo’s embeddable video player uses first-party cookies that we consider essential to the video player experience. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies when our video player appears on a third-party website, unless (i) the website visitor is logged in to their Vimeo account and (ii) the user who embedded the video has not implemented the DNT Parameter. Please note that a third-party website may place cookies of its own. We have no control over third-party websites or the cookies they set.

As noted elsewhere in this policy, OSOM does NOT use cookies.
